Is Permanent Weight Loss a Miracle

Losing weight and keeping it off has very little to do with eating and exercise. Eating is a necessary function of life, it is our fuel supply source, we simply must eat for health and life to flourish and continue. Exercise is how we allude to the body carrying out its functions. We measure this work in calories and whether we choose to sit on the couch and “potatoe” or run a marathon we expend energy in the form of calories due to the necessary internal workings of our bodies.

So if eating and exercise are necessary functions how can weight be attributed to eating and exercise.

The reality of being overweight is that it is a function of the mind. It is a thought function or more accurately put a non thought function. Most of us go through our lives blissfully unaware that we are unaware. We are in a kind of dream sleepwalking through life. The choices that we are accused of making are actually made by our subconscious mind acting on pre programmed conditioning and belief structures.

So as it turns out the only way to actually keep off the weight we lose as the result of an active dieting plan is to alter the prevailing conditioning and belief structure that put on the weight in the first place.

Almost all weight loss eventually returns. Just as the alcoholic must come to accept that he/she is an alcoholic for all their life so too the overweight person must accept that no matter how slim they become, they are in reality a fat person waiting.

The first step in any change in life pattern is an awareness that it is not you that is performing the dysfunctional behavior; rather it is your subconscious doing as it is told by conditioning and belief structures. This is the reason why most people never keep the weight off. They actually believe that they are making the conscious decision to over eat and under exercise. They are deluded into believing that they are in control of their every waking moment.

How can you be in control of your every waking moment when in fact you are at most probably aware for less than five minutes a day? The rest of the time, fourteen or fifteen hours your are merely the subconscious acting out the conditioning and belief structure.

A great monk once said of meditation and I quote: “Meditation is simple, merely find the mind and bring it back.” What he is alluding to is that meditation is awareness. Awareness is being aware, knowing that you are here now perceiving your world. It is like a moment of pristine clearness. Seeing

You are not worried you are in fact worry. You are not happy you are happiness. These are the things that we fail to recognize. We are not a noun we in fact a verb. If you are a noun then you must apply your self to a task, but a closer observation of life shows that we are being which turns out to be a verb.

Someone who believes that he is John and that he is an electrician is lost in a maze. Who or what is he when he is watching TV, when he is playing football, when he is eating dinner. We become the task.

But because we seldom experience awareness and rely on the auto pilot that is the subconscious to do our “being” for us, we are actually almost all of the time our subconscious. The subconscious however in and of itself is useless like a computer without operating software and so it relies on our preexisting programming to direct our “being” which is the course of our life. This preexisting software is none other than the conditioning which forms our belief structure.

So it turns out that what we actually are for the vast majority of our live is nothing but preexisting programming in the form of conditioning and beliefs acting out.

So if you are fat it is not because you want to be or because you are lazy or a glutton. It is merely because somewhere in the preexisting programming which is running the sleepwalk that you call your life it is written that the actions that make you fat are in fact desirable.

Losing weight is hard. Keeping it off is a miracle. The classic book “A Course in Miracles” states that a miracle is the changing or the elimination of a belief.

So for you to achieve the miracle of permanent weight loss you merely need to change a dysfunctional belief pattern.
